A mobile application for gifting presents - design and implementation

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá tématikou návrhu a implementace mobilní aplikace pro operační systém Android. Cílem práce je potřeba řešení problému, kdy mnoho lidí, včetně autora této práce, každoročně v období Vánoc neví, co koupit za dárek svým blízkým či známým a v důsledku toho pak spousta z těchto lidí zažívá zbytečný stres spojený s nakupováním vánočních dárků. Vyvíjená aplikace je svým uživatelům nápomocná při shánění těchto vánočních dárků a částečně tak eliminuje výše zmiňovaný stres. V úvodu práce je čtenář obeznámen s fakty o ekonomické stránce Vánoc, které jsou podložené statistickými daty sesbíranými za využití dotazovací metody CAPI (pro ČR). Na základě těchto dat bylo vysvětleno, proč je vhodné vyvíjet mobilní aplikaci právě s vánoční tématikou. Dále se čtenář seznámí s konkrétními postupy spojenými s návrhem a implementací mobilní aplikace v jazyce Java. Je uveden do návrhu a prototypování vizuálního vzhledu aplikace dodržujícího zásady designového jazyka Material Design. Dále je seznámen s návrhem a implementací NoSQL databáze Firebase Firestore, poté se samotnou implementací hlavní funkčnosti aplikace využívající především komponenty RecyclerView a dodržující zásady softwarové architektury MVC. V textu je zpracován i samotný proces publikování finální aplikace na distribuční službě Google Play. V práci jsou slovně popsány některé významné či problematické části implementace a k dispozici je čtenáři i kompletní zdrojový kód finální aplikace. V závěru práce je vyhodnoceno elektronické dotazníkové šetření, při kterém více jak 80 % respondentů uvedlo, že si myslí, že by jim tato aplikace mohla být reálně nápomocná v období Vánoc při shánění vánočních dárků. Díky poznatkům uvedeným v této práci a také díky možné inspiraci z poskytnutého zdrojového kódu získá čtenář povědomí o vývoji mobilních aplikací pro operační systém Android a bude mu tím ulehčen případný proces vývoje vlastního softwarového řešení pro zmíněnou platformu. Hlavním výsledkem této práce je pak funkční aplikace včetně jejích zdrojových kódů.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with design and implementation of mobile application for Android operating system. The aim of the thesis is to solve the problem, when many people, including the author of this thesis, every year during the Christmas period do not know what to buy for a gift to their friends or relative and as a result a lot of these people experience unnecessary stress associated with shopping of Christmas gifts. The developed application is then helping its users in process of choosing Christmas gifts for their friends or relatives during Christmas and partly eliminates the stress mentioned. In the introduction, the reader is familiar with the facts about the economic aspect of Christmas, supported by statistical data collected using the CAPI inquiry method. They will also learn about specific procedures associated with design and implementation in Java. Then the reader is introduced into design and prototyping applications that follow the design language of Material Design. He is also familiar with the design and implementation of the NoSQL Firebase Firestore database, then with the implementation of the main application functionality using mainly RecyclerView components and following the MVC software architecture principles. There is also described the process of publishing the final application on the Google Play distribution service. Some significant or problematic parts of the implementation are described by word in the thesis and the complete source code of the final application is available to the reader. At the end of the thesis, an electronic questionnaire survey is evaluated, in which more than 80% of respondents said they think that this application could really help them during the Christmas period. Thanks to the knowledge given in this work and due to possible inspiration from the provided source code, the reader will gain awareness of the development of mobile applications for the Android operating system and will facilitate the possible process of developing their own software solution for the mentioned platform. The main result of this work is a functional application including source codes.
