Communism as a theme of contemporary Czech counterfactual prose

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá reflexí komunismu v současné české kontrafaktuální próze, přičemž se zaměřuje na tři konkrétní romány (Listopád, Opona a Šedá) chápané jako zástupné, které využívají principy alternativní historie k reinterpretaci komunistické minulosti a jejích možných variant. V první části, práce přibližuje pojem alternativní a kontrafaktuální historie. Ve druhé části jsou analyzována konkrétní díla z hlediska prvků, kterými autoři tematizovali dění během komunistického režimu ve 20. století. Součástí analýzy je také vzájemné porovnání těchto děl z hlediska jejich vztahu k historické realitě. Práce se také zabývá otázkou, nakolik se autoři drželi skutečných dějinných událostí a v jakých aspektech s nimi souhlasí, a naopak, kde se od nich odklánějí a vytvářejí tak alternativní verze historie.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with the reflection of communism in Czech contemporary counterfactual prose, focusing on three specific novels (Listopád, Opona and Šedá) understood as proxy novels that use the principles of alternative history to reinterpret the communist past and its possible variants. In the first part, the thesis introduces the concept of alternative and counterfactual history. In the second part, specific works are analyzed in terms of the elements through which the authors thematized events during the communist regime in the 20th century. The analysis also includes a mutual comparison of these works in terms of their relationship to historical reality. The thesis also addresses the question of how much the authors adhered to real historical events and in what aspects they agree with them, and conversely, where they deviate from them and create alternative versions of history.
