The Stage Direction of Medieval Religious Drama

Abstract:

Dizertační práce se zabývá podobou a formou scénické poznámky středověkého náboženského dramatu, tzv. rubriky. V práci autorka nahlíží na středověkou latinskou rubriku ze dvou různých úhlů: z divadelně teoretického hlediska, jako na scénickou poznámku dramatického textu, a z významového (obsahového) hlediska, jako na specifickou část středověkého dramatického textu, jež vypovídá o nejrůznějších scénických aspektech konkrétní hry i obecně o inscenačních formách středověkého divadla. Hlavní zdroj analýzy představují dramatické texty převážně latinského liturgického dramatu 10.-16. století (velikonoční drama, vánoční drama, starozákonní a novozákonní hry, hry o svatých apod.) se zvláštním zřetelem k několika „polo-liturgickým“ (např. Jeu d´Adam) či mimoliturgickým hrám (např. Ludus de Antichristo).

Abstract:

The dissertation thesis deals with the form and style of the stage direction of medieval religious drama, a so called rubric. The author of the thesis regards the medieval Latin rubric from two different points of view: from the point of view of theatre theory, as the stage direction of the dramatic text, and from the semantic point of view, as a specific part of the medieval dramatic text revealing different stage aspects of a concrete play and generally of staging forms of medieval theatre. The main source of the analysis includes dramatic texts of mostly Latin liturgical drama from the 10th to 16th century (Easter drama, Christmas plays, Old and New Testament plays, plays of Saints etc.) with special regard to several „semi-liturgical“ (e.g. Jeu d´Adam) and extra-liturgical (e.g. The Play of Antichrist) plays.
