Conscious functional motion imagery of the upper extremities using EMG

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je zhodnocení představy pohybu na přístroji EMG a její využití v praxi. Práce se zabývá zkoumáním aktivity m. bicepsu brachii při imaginaci a jejích vari-antách. Pro realizaci praktické části práce byl využíván přístroj Trigno Wireless EMG System a senzory od firmy Delsys. Testovaným pohybem bylo napití se ze sklenice, dále představa tohoto pohybu, jeho pozorování a sledování tohoto pohybu prováděného 2. kon-četinou v zrcadle. Z výsledků práce vyplývá, že aktivita sledovaného svalu zobrazená na přístroji EMG při imaginaci je velmi malá a plně nenahradí jiné facilitační techniky. Tato práce slouží zejména jako zdroj informací o neurálních strukturách, které se zapojují ne-jen při pohybu, ale také při představě, či pozorování pohybu. Při imaginaci se aktivují právě stejná centra jako u reálně provedeného pohybu.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate motor imagery of a movement on the EMG device and its use in practice. The thesis focuses on the study of activitiy of the biceps brachii muscle during motor imagery and pressure variations. The Trigno Wireless EMG System and sensors from Delsys were used for realization of the practical part of this the-sis. The movement tested was drinking from a glass, the motor imagery of this mo-vement, its observation and monitoring of this movement performed by the second limb projected in the mirror. The results of the work show that the activity of the monitored muscle displayed on the EMG device during the motor imagery is very low and it does not fully replace other facilitation techniques. This thesis serves mainly as a source of information about neural structures that are involved not only in movement but also in imagining or observing such movement. During the motor imagery, exactly the same cen-ters as in the actual movement are being activated.
