Media-literacy for university students: A case study in open-source solutions for identity protection and cyber-security

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on cyber literacy and understanding information security for students by presenting some of the cyber events that have already occurred due to ignorance of information security and lack of adequate resources and information to deal with these events and avoid their occurrence in the future. The study aims to assess the student's knowledge regarding information security and examine the negative consequences of a lack of awareness in this area. Moreover, including solutions that can reduce the dangerous consequences of these cyber events, as one of the proposed solutions to this problem, includes integrating information security as a fundamental subject in university curricula. Clarify some critical concepts in the field of information security and provide open-source and accessible solutions that can be used to reduce cyber events or mitigate their effects and protect identity and information.
