Public Area Quality of Central European Cities

Abstract:

The subject of the diploma thesis is the analysis and evaluation of public spaces in Central European cities. The first part of the work is the theoretical part, which deals with urbanization, historical development and spatial structure of cities. It also provides a definition of basic concepts and typology of public spaces. The empirical part of the work is the analysis and evaluation of public spaces on the basis of selected evaluation aspects, which the author selected on the basis of a study of literature dealing with the evaluation of the quality of public spaces. The result of the diploma thesis will be to prove the values found in the research. The secondary goal of the work will be to find out to what extent the quality of public spaces has changed from the time of mass housing construction, which took place during the socialism era and post-socialist times, to the present. Subsequently, the hypothesis will be evaluated: "The quality of public spaces in socialist and post-socialist housing estates is at a higher level than in the housing development of new development projects."

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá analýzou a hodnotením verejných priestorov stredoeurópskych miest. Prvú časť práce predstavuje teoretická časť, ktorá sa venuje urbanizácii, historickým vývojom a priestorovej štruktúre miest. Uvádza tiež definíciu základných pojmov verejných priestorov a typológiu verejných priestranstiev. Empirickú časť práce predstavuje analýza a hodnotenie verejných priestorov na základe vybraných hodnotiacich aspektov, ktoré autorka práce vybrala na základe štúdia odbornej literatúry zaoberajúcej sa hodnotením kvality verejných priestorov. Výsledkom diplomovej práce bude preukázanie zistených hodnôt z výskumu. Vedľajším cieľom práce bude zistenie, do akej miery sa zmenila kvalita verejných priestorov od doby hromadnej bytovej výstavby, ktorá prebiehala v čase éry socializmu a postsocialistickej doby, až po súčasnosť. Následne bude vyhodnotená hypotéza: „Kvalita verejných priestorov na socialistických a postsocialistických sídliskách je na vyššej úrovni, než v bytovej zástavbe nových developerských projektov.“
