Abstract This thesis will explore how Mary Shelley uses Frankenstein to both reflect and criticize the position of women in the society in which she lived and wrote. The dangers of the repression of the feminine gender, either embodied in the female or its natural dimensions in the male, will be directly derived from her novel and the world she was acquainted with.
