Monitoring of changes in species diversity and size of nesting bird populations depending on the implementation of meadow wetland management

Abstract:

Význam mokradí pre faunu, flóru aj ľudí je všeobecne známy. Počet hrozieb, ktorým čelia, je však známy menej. Od eutrofizácie, zasypávania, odklonu toku a budovania priehrad až po globálne otepľovanie, odvodňovanie a premenu na poľnohospodársku pôdu, to všetko vedie k zmeneným alebo zničeným biotopom. Na zmiernenie všetkých týchto negatívnych vplyvov sa zavádzajú rôzne formy manažmentu. Tieto praktiky často ovplyvňujú všetku biotu, a to negatívnym aj pozitívnym spôsobom. V rámci predkladanej práce sme skúmali vplyv manažmentu, pastvy dobytka a kosenia, na vtáčie spoločenstvá mokrade v poľnohospodárskom regióne južnej Moravy. Napriek iba dvom kompletným rokom manažmentu bol zistený významný rozdiel medzi druhovým zložením vtákov v rôznych typoch biotopov (manažované, tŕstie, polia atď.) a medzi jednotlivými rokmi. Ďalej rástol počet druhov, vrátane tých ohrozených uprednostňujúcich otvorené biotopy, ako sú Vanellus vanellus či Motacilla flava. Počet jedincov odchytených pomocou nárazových sietí zostal počas rokov pomerne stabilný, takže početnosť vtákov nebola ovplyvnená ani manažmentom, ani počasím. Pokračovanie v pasení a kosení pravdepodobne povedie k ďalšiemu zvýšeniu diverzity a početnosti vtáctva, nakoľko druhový „zásobník“ širšieho okolia je bohatý.

Abstract:

The importance of wetlands for fauna, flora and people is generally known. The number of threats they face may be less so. From eutrophication, filling, water diversions and building of dams to global warming, draining and conversion to agricultural land, they all result in altered or destroyed habitats. In order to mitigate all these negative practices, various forms of management are implemented. These practices often influence most biota, both in negative and positive ways. We studied the effects of management, cattle grazing and mowing, on bird communities of a wetland in an agricultural region of South Moravia. Despite only two full years of management, there was a significant difference between species composition in the different habitat types (managed, reeds, fields, etc.) and between years. Furthermore, the number of species grew, including endangered species preferring open habitats, such as Vanellus vanellus or Motacilla flava. The number of individuals caught using mist nets stayed fairly stable throughout the years, so the abundances were not affected, neither by the management nor weather. Continuation of grazing and mowing will likely lead to further increase in avian diversity and abundances, as the species pool of the area is rich.
