Evolution of Oligocene and Early Miocene snake assemblages in Southern Germany.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje bližší determinaci hadů na vybraných lokalitách jižního Německa. Z doposud nedeterminovaného materiálu byly vyčleněny taxony Eoanilius sp., cf. Bavarioboa sp. a Colubrinae gen. et sp. indet. na lokalitě Möhren 13 (MP 22), taxony Eoanilius aff. oligocenicus, Bavarioboa sp., Bavarioboa cf. minuta, Boinae gen. et sp. indet. a Platyspondylia lepta na lokalitě Gaimersheim (MP 28), taxony Bavarioboa sp., Coluber (sl.) sp. a Vipera sp. z komplexu aspis, na lokalitě Weißenburg 6 (MN 1) a taxony Bavarioboa sp., Boinae gen. et sp. indet., Falseryx petersbuchi, Falseryx sp., Coluber hungaricus, cf. Telescopus sp., Colubrinae gen. et sp. indet., Neonatrix cf. europea, Natrix sp., Vipera sp. z komplexu ‘orientálních zmijí‘ a Micrurus gallicus na lokalitě Wintershof-West (MN 3), přičemž Bavarioboa sp. a Natrix sp. mohou představovat nové druhy. Výrazné zvyšování diverzity colubroidních hadů během miocénu, obzvláště v zóně MN 3, lze dát do souvislosti s nástupem miocenního klimatického optima. Nové poznatky v kontextu se zjištěným paleoenvironmentálním prostředím a paleoklimatickými podmínkami významně doplňují současné znalosti o období, kdy do Evropy začala pronikat hadí fauna asijských imigrantů, složena především ze zástupců nadčeledi Colubroidea, která během miocénu nahradila původní evropskou herpetofaunu, ve které hráli významnou roli především hroznýšovití hadi.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with closer determination of snakes at selected localities of southern Germany. From the previously undetermined material, the following taxa were defined: Eoanilius sp., cf. Bavarioboa sp. and Colubrinae gen. et sp. indet. at the locality Möhren 13 (MP 22), Eoanilius aff. oligocenicus, Bavarioboa sp., Bavarioboa cf. minuta, Boinae gen. et sp. indet. and Platyspondylia lepta at the locality Gaimersheim (MP 28), Bavarioboa sp., Coluber (sl.) sp. and Vipera sp. from the complex aspis, at the locality Weißenburg 6 (MN 1) and taxa Bavarioboa sp., Boinae gen. et sp. indet., Falseryx petersbuchi, Falseryx sp., Coluber hungaricus, cf. Telescopus sp., Colubrinae gen. et sp. indet., Neonatrix cf. europea, Natrix sp., Vipera sp. from the complex of 'oriental vipers' and Micrurus gallicus at the locality Wintershof-West (MN 3), where the Bavarioboa sp. and Natrix sp. may represent new species. Significant increasing of diversity of colubroid snakes during the miocene, especially in the MN 3 zone, can be connected with the start of miocene climatic optimum. The new results in the context of the established paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic conditions substantially fill in the current knowledge of the period when the snake fauna of Asian immigrants, composed mainly of superfamily Colubroidea, began to penetrate into Europe and which, during the miocene, replaced the original European herpetofauna, consiting mainly of Boidae snakes.
