The morphological category of aspect in the English language

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to deal with the category of aspect in the English language and to find out how much it can be compared with the morphological category of ?vid? (perfective/imperfective) in the Czech language. The English theoretical part describes the features of the category of aspect and the semantic references of the progressive and perfective aspect. The Czech theoretical part briefly describes the category of ?vid? and is followed by the practical survey supported with samples. The practical part provides excerpts from the original English literature and compares them with their translations published in Czech.

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zabývat se kategorií aspektu v anglickém jazyce a zjistit, do jaké míry může být tato kategorie srovnávána s morfologickou kategorií vidu (dokonavého/nedokonavého) v českém jazyce. Anglická teoretická část popisuje vlastnosti kategorie aspektu a sémantické roviny progresivního aspektu a aspektu perfekta. Česká teoretická část krátce popisuje vidovou kategorii a je následována praktickým průzkumem, který je podložen příklady. Praktická část poskytuje excerpta z originální anglické literatury a srovnává je s jejich v češtině publikovanými překlady.
