Abstract:

Tato práce zkoumá principy užívání nevyžádané hudební produkce na veřejných místech v rámci akustické ekologie. Dále se práce ohlíží za historií společnosti Muzak a poskytuje informace o hudebních postupech, kritice a vlivech na dané hudební žánry. V poslední části se práce soustředí na muzak jako na pojem. Zkoumá faktory, které vedly k jeho gene-ralizaci, a popisuje měnící se trendy v užívání hudby na veřejnosti skrze pohled na studie a názory odborníků. Dodatečně se práce ohlíží za paralelami muzaku se streamovacími službami a snahami o obranu proti nevyžádané hudbě.

Abstract:

This thesis analyzes the principles of using unsolicited musical production in public spaces as a means of acoustic ecology. Furthermore this thesis explores the history of the Muzak, Inc. and provides information regarding its musical techniques, critique and influence on other music genres. The final part of this work is focused on muzak as a concept. By using various studies and expert opinions, it describes the changing trends of using music in public places, as well as how muzak as the term became generalized. Additionally, this thesis deals with the parallels between muzak and streaming services, and the attempts to counter unsolicited musical exposure.
