Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá asimilací Židů v USA. Spolu s historickou částí příběhu o tom, jak vznikala největší světová diaspora, se práce ve své teoretické části zaobírá prolínáním národnostních identit Američanů, kteří přišli nebo jsou potomci těch, kteří do Ameriky přišli hledat lepší život, svobodu a štěstí. Američtí Židé tvoří jádro této práce, nicméně multikulturalismus, mnohočetné identity a pluralismus jsou taktéž detailně probírány. V praktické části práce analyzuje změny v komunitě amerických Židů v posledních padesáti letech za použití celonárodních průzkumů a s přihlédnutím k poznatkům z teoretické části práce. Práce se snaží vyjádřit k hypotézám formulovaným na začátku praktické části.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis explores the Assimilation of Jews in the United States. Alongside with the history part of the story about the American Jews creating the biggest diaspora in the world, the thesis, in its theoretical part, explores the blending of national identities of all the Americans who came or are descendants of those who came to seek better life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The Jewish Americans are the crux of the work, but multiculturalism, multiple identities and pluralism are also discussed in greater details. In the practical part, the thesis analyses the changes in the Jewish American community in the last fifty years using national wide surveys with respect to the background information presented in the theoretical part. It tries to comment on the research hypotheses formulated in the beginning of the practical part.
