Modernization during the Reign of Alexander II depicted in Russian Literature of the 2nd half of the 19th Century

Abstract:

Předložená práce se pokouší zachytit obraz modernizace Ruska za vlády Alexandra II. v ruské literatuře. Velká literární díla, která rychle dosáhla světové proslulosti, v Rusku nefungovala pouze jako krásná literatura, nýbrž nahrazovala též chybějící vrstvy modernizačního procesu. Odpovídá to asynchronnímu typu modernizace. Z tohoto hlediska se text věnuje Petru Jakovleviči Čaadajevovi, Nikolaji Gavriloviči Černyševskému a trojici proslulých romanopisců (Ivan Sergejevič Turgeněv, Michail Fjodorovič Dostojevskij a Lev Nikolajevič Tolstoj). V dosavadní české odborné literatuře se významně věnoval uvedené problematice pouze T. G. Masaryk. Práce se proto kriticky vyrovnává s tzv. III. dílem Masarykova spisu Rusko a Evropa.

Abstract:

The thesis aims at capturing the image of modernization in Russia under the reign of Alexander II, depicted in Russian literature. Great world-wide famous literary works not only performed as belles-lettres, but also substituted the missing levels of the modernization process. This corresponds to the non-synchronous type of modernization. From this perspective the text deals with the works of Petr Yakovlevich Chaadaev, Nikolay Gavrilovich Chernyshevsky, and with the works of the three well-known novelists (Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev, Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoyevsky and Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy). In the existing Czech scholarly literature only T. G. Masaryk paid special attention to these questions, which is why this thesis’ goal is to make a comparative analysis with the so-called 3rd part of Masaryk’s paper Russia and Europe.
