Analysis of a juridical text and discussion of translation techniques

Abstract:

This dissertation is dedicated to a legislative text translation and its analysis. Our objective was to present the legislative text as a subject matter of the translation, then to define its requirements, style and means of language that characterize this kind of text and, finally, translate two chosen laws. We focused on translation methods that are suitable for such a text and after that we drew a comparison. The work is divided into two parts: theoretical part and practical part. The first part is dedicated to theoretic background of the theme and it contains a general definition of the legislative text, translation methods and brief introduction to the European law, its formation and influence on legislative systems of its member states. In the practical part we approached the translation and the analysis of the chosen texts and we drew conclusions. We created a glossary of terms we met within the texts and put at the end of practical part.

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je věnována překladu a analýze právního textu. Jejím cílem bylo prezentovat právní text jako předmět překladu, definovat jeho náležitosti, styl a jazykové prostředky, které ho charakterizují, a poté vypracovat překlad dvou zvolených zákonů. Zaměřili jsme se na překladatelské postupy, které jsou vhodné pro překlad daného typu diskurzu, a na základě překladu dvou zvolených textů jsme vypracovali jejich srovnání. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí: teoretické a praktické. První část je věnována teoretické oblasti tématu, kde jsme obecně vymezili právní text, překladatelské metody a stručně pojednali o vzniku evropského práva a jeho vlivu na právní systém členských států Evropské unie. V praktické části jsme pak přistoupili k vlastnímu překladu a analýze zvolených textů a vyvodili závěry. Součástí praktické části je také glosář pojmů, se kterými jsme se v textu setkali.
