­Assessment of cognitive functions in occupational therapy

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá tématem hodnocení kognitivních funkcí v ergoterapii. Cílem práce je vyhodnotit využívanost testů kognitivních funkcí v české ergoterapeutické praxi, což prozatím nebylo dostatečně předmětem debat v České republice. Teoretická část na cíli participuje vytvořením teoretického rámce, který čtenáře seznámí s kognitivními funkcemi, rolí ergoterapeutů v kognitivní rehabilitaci a představí výčet testů sloužících k jejich hodnocení. Hlavními použitými metodami jsou deskripce a analýza textu. Empirická část skrze anketní šetření ve formě nestandardizovaného dotazníku zjišťuje, do jaké míry jsou kognitivní funkce testovány pomocí testů kognitivních funkcí, které z těchto testů jsou využívány nejvíce, a které jsou nejvhodnější pro hodnocení poznávacích funkcí ergoterapeuty. Práce dochází mj. k závěru, že přestože se jako nejvhodnější pro ergoterapeutickou intervenci ukázal test MoCA, nevyužívanějším testem je MMSE. Tato situace může být způsobena např. etablovaností MMSE v klinické praxi, snadnější a časově nenáročnější administrací a jeho snadnou dostupností na pracovištích. Dílčími výstupy praktické části jsou poster a brožura. Poster představuje výsledky anketního šetření a stručně popisuje 5 nejvyužívanějších kognitivních testů v české ergoterapeutické praxi. Brožura v sobě zahrnuje popis volně dostupných a českých kognitivních testů, a navíc obsahuje informace o testu LOTCA a MoCA.

Abstract:

The topic of the thesis is an evaluation of cognitive functions in the Czech occupational therapy. The objective is an assessment of the use of cognitive tests in the Czech occupational therapy practice, which has not been sufficiently discussed in the Czech Republic so far. The theoretical part aims to establish a theoretical framework, which serves for an introduction of cognitive functions and role of occupational therapists in their treatment, together with a list of cognitive tests applied in their evaluation process. Main research methods comprise description and text analysis. The core of the empirical part is a questionnaire survey in the form of non-standardized questionnaire created by the author. The questionnaire inquires about the extent of application of cognitive tests in the assessment of cognitive functions, which tests are employed the most and which are the most suitable for the evaluation process. The thesis inter alia concludes that although the MoCA test has been judged as the most appropriate, the most widely used is the MMSE test. This might be caused, among others, by the MMSE being well-established and accessible in the Czech clinical practice, together with having a more straightforward and less time-consuming administration. Additional outcomes include a poster and a brochure. The poster consists of the results of the questionnaire survey and a brief description of the 5 most widely conducted cognitive tests in the Czech occupational therapy practice. The brochure encompasses descriptions of freely available and Czech cognitive tests as well as information on LOTCA and MoCA tests.
