Logos spermatikos in Work of Justin the Martyr: Justin's conception of Logos with emphasis on his sowing character

Abstract:

The work deals with an analysis of Justin´s doctrine of the Logos with an emphasis on sowing character of the Logos (Logos spermatikos), which is actually the first coherent theological synthesis of the original Hebrew early-Christian thought and ancient philosophy. The focus of my analysis of Justin´s conception of the Logos is based on an analysis of texts of his Apologies. In the first part of the work is first presented Justin´s life and work, then Justin´s philosophical background, its relationship to platonism, and specifically to the middle-platonism and usege of the term logos/Logos in Hellenistic philosophy, in thinking of the Old Testament, later jewish literature and early Christianity, which represents potential sources of Justin´s doctrine of the Logos. In the second part, which forms the very core of the work is presented Justin´s doctrine of the spermatic Logos and its probable direct philosophical and theological roots, at first based on secondary literature and then by analysis and interpretation of selected passages of Justin´s Apologies. Part of this analysis are also translations of these passages.

Abstract:

Práca sa zaoberá analýzou Iústínovej náuky o Logu s dôrazom na rozsievací charakter Logu (Logos spermatikos), ktorá predstavuje prakticky prvú koherentnú theologickú syntézu pôvodného hebrejského ranne-kresťanského myslenia a antickej filozofie. Ťažisko mojej analýzy Iústínovej koncepcie Logu spočíva na rozbore textov jeho Apológií. V prvej časti práce je najprv predstavený Iústínov život a dielo, potom Iústínovo filozofické pozadie, jeho vzťah k platonizmu, a konkrétne k strednému platonizmu, a použitie pojmu logos/Logos v helenistickej filozofii, v myslení Starého zákona, neskoršej židovskej literatúry a ranného kresťanstva, ktoré predstavuje potenciálne zdroje Iústínovej náuky o Logu. V druhej časti, ktorá tvorí vlastné jadro práce, je predstavená samotná Iústínova náuka o spermatickom Logu a jej pravdepodobné priame filozoficko-theologické korene, najprv na základe sekundárnej literatúry a potom formou rozboru a interpretácie vybraných pasáží Iústínovych Apológií. Súčasťou týchto rozborov sú aj preklady príslušných textov.
