Teaching a selected critical point of geography at high school

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá identifikací kritických míst ve výuce zeměpisu na střední škole. Výzkum spočíval nejprve v identifikaci kritických míst pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s učiteli zeměpisu na střední škole, kde byla zjištěna jako nejčetnější kritická místa témata vesmír, kartografie a atmosféra a další. Pro kritická místa byly zjištěny i příčiny jejich kritičnosti. Z výsledků bylo zjištěno, že kritická místa jsou stejná s kritickými místy na základních školách. Na základě výsledků z rozhovorů bylo vybráno kritické místo - Hadleyova buňka, pro které byl sestaven výukový modul, který měl za cíl překlenout identifikovaná kritická místa. Účinnost výukového modulu byla u studentů zjištěna ověřením znalostí pomocí kvaziexperimentu před a po, tedy testováním pomocí pretestu a posttestu. Po provedení výukového modulu bylo u studentů zjištěno zlepšení a došlo i k posunutí znalostí na vyšší kognitivní úroveň dle Bloomovy taxonomie. Výsledky těchto testů byly následně statisticky zpracovány a interpretovány. Testována byla také změna úrovně znalostí podle Bloomovy taxonomie. Výsledky testů byly statisticky zpracovány dle Wilcoxonova testu nebo pomocí aritmetického průměru a následně graficky znázorněny, např. pomocí kvartilového grafu.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the identification of critical points in the teaching of geography in secondary school. The research consisted first of identifying critical places through semi-structured interviews with secondary school geography teachers, where the topics of space, cartography and atmosphere, among others, were identified as the most common critical places. The reasons for critical places were also identified. From the results, it was found that the critical places are the same with the critical places in primary schools. Based on the results from the interviews, a critical place - Hadley cell was selected for which a teaching module was designed to bridge the identified critical places. The effectiveness of the instructional module was determined by testing the students' knowledge using a quasi-experiment before and after, i.e., pretest and posttest. After the implementation of the teaching module, students were found to have improved and also moved their knowledge to a higher cognitive level according to Bloom's taxonomy. The results of these tests were then statistically processed and interpreted. The change in knowledge level according to Bloom's taxonomy was also tested. The results of the tests were statistically processed according to the Wilcoxon test or by using the arithmetic mean and then graphically represented, e.g. by a quartile plot.
