Reconstruction of air temperature and precipitation in the Czech Republic - a synthesis of documentary evidence and instrumental records

Abstract:

Zájem odborné i laické veřejnosti o problematiku změny klimatu neustále roste. Pokud dokážeme určit možnosti přirozeného kolísání klimatu, pak lépe určíme podíl lidské činnosti na tomto procesu. Tato práce by měla přispět k poznání kolísání podnebí na území České republiky v posledních 500 letech. Cílem je pomocí metod historickoklimatologického výzkumu určit teplotní a srážkové odchylky sezón a roků od průměru období 1961–2000. Toho je docíleno přiřazením vážených teplotních nebo srážkových indexů jednotlivým měsícům nebo sezónám, pro něž máme dostatek písemných zpráv. V práci jsou nastíněny postupy, jak minimalizovat subjektivní chyby vzniklé jak autorem zpráv, tak jejím následným převodem na klimatické indexy. Na závěr je provedena diskuse výsledků a porovnání s ostatními evropskými řadami.

Abstract:

There has been an increasing interest in problems of climate changes among both specialists and non–specialists. If we are able to specify possibilites of natural climate variation it is easier to identify human share on this process. This thesis deals with climate variation on the area of the Czech Republic during the last 500 years. The aim is to set temperature and precipitation deviations from the average of the period 1961–2000 for seasons and years, by using a historical–climatological research. It is done by matching weighted temperature and precipitatios indices to particular months or seasons (for which we have enough written reports). The thesis outlines methods how to minimize subjective faults caused either by authors of reports or during their conversion into climatic indices. There is a discussion of results and a comparison with other European series in the last part of the thesis.
