Cultural aspects of international business negotiation in the case of Petrof and its expansion into the Middle East

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá mezinárodním obchodním jednáním a vlivem kulturních odlišností na jeho průběh. Práce v první části charakterizuje mezinárodní obchodní jednání a jeho jednotlivé fáze, dále popisuje arabskou a českou kulturu za využití kulturních dimenzí. V druhé části je porovnávána česká a arabská kultura a její vliv na průběh mezinárodního obchodního jednání, a to na základě kvalitativních rozhovorů se zástupkyní společnosti Petrof a s arabskými obchodníky podnikajícími v České republice. Práce upozorňuje na skutečnost, že v důsledku odlišného chování, chápání a očekávání může během vyjednávání dojít k neshodám, které mohou vyústit až v neuzavření kontraktu nebo ukončení spolupráce. Práce proto v závěru poskytuje společnosti Petrof doporučení, jak využít znalost arabské kultury ve svůj prospěch při jednání se svými partnery.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with international business negotiations and the influence of cultural differences on their development. The first part of the thesis characterizes the international business negotiations and their phases, then describes Arab and Czech culture using cultural dimensions. The second part compares the Czech and Arab cultures and their influence on the process of international business negotiations, based on qualitative interviews with a representative of Petrof and with Arab businessmen doing business in the Czech Republic. The thesis highlights the fact that due to different behaviour, perceptions and expectations, disagreements may arise during the negotiation process, which may result in the failure to conclude a contract or termination of cooperation. The thesis, therefore, concludes by providing Petrof with recommendations on how to use the knowledge of Arab culture to its advantage when negotiating with its partners.
