Digital Upgrade in Slovak Visual Arts

Abstract:

The topic of the master's thesis is the mapping of the overlapping of digital elements and technologies into Slovak visual art from the 70s of the 20th century to the present. The first part of the thesis deals with the issue of terminology of "new media", and part of the work reflects the arrival of the "digital revolution" at the end of the 20th century, which largely interferes with the field of visual arts, either formally when the materiality of the works of art page, changing the author's mind as a creator. The thesis aims at comprehensively processing digital art on the territory of Slovakia, especially in terms of cultural-historical and technological context. The historiographical character of the work follows three basic lines of artists of the older, middle and younger generation selected on the basis of the primary key, which is a digital element found in the creation of the author or his use during the creation of the work. The secondary key is to establish the artist on the scene and to have a sufficient level of concept, not just the mastery of the technical apparatus. Both generations are then subdivided into generic categories defined through the technologies or media used in their work. In individual subcategories, author's work is produced and the work is interpreted.

Abstract:

Témou magisterskej diplomovej práce je mapovanie presahu digitálnych prvkov a technológií do slovenského vizuálneho umenia od 70. rokov 20. storočia po súčasnosť. V prvej časti práce je implikovaná problematika terminológie „nových médií“ a časť práce reflektuje príchod „digitálnej revolúcie“ koncom 20. storočia, ktorá v značnej miere zasahuje sféru vizuálneho umenia, či už po formálnej stránke, kedy dochádza k premene materiality umeleckých diel alebo ideovej stránke, meniacej myslenie autora ako tvorcu. Práca si kladie za cieľ komplexne spracovať digitálne umenie na území Slovenka a to najmä z hľadiska kultúrno historického a technologického kontextu. Historiografický charakter práce sleduje tri základné línie umelcov staršej, strednej a mladšej generácie, vyselektovaných na základe primárneho kľúča, ktorým je digitálny prvok vyskytujúci sa v tvorbe autora alebo jeho využitie počas vzniku diela. Sekundárnym kľúčom je etablovanie umelca na scéne a obsiahnutie dostatočnej ideovej úrovne diela, nie len zvládnutie technického aparátu. Obe generácie sú následné delené do druhových kategórií, zadefinovaných skrz technológie alebo média, ktoré vo svojom diele využili. V jednotlivých subkategóriách je spracovaná tvorba autora a interpretácia diela.
