Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o změně americké zahraniční politiky po nástupu George W. Bushe do úřadu prezidenta Spojených států amerických. Po teroristických útocích 11. září 2001 se jeho tým ujal nové, ofenzivnější strategie vůči zbytku světa, což vyvolalo rozporuplné reakce světové veřejnosti i jejich vlastních politických reprezentantů. Nepříznivé klima na světové politické scéně nastalo zejména po napadení a následné okupaci Iráku. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zejména reakcemi na tyto události a rozborem jejich dopadů na vnímání USA očima obyvatelů ostatních zemí. Práce je rozdělena do pěti základních kapitol. První kapitola se zabývá americkou zahraniční politikou druhé poloviny dvacátého století, zejména studenou válkou a jejími důsledky, které vyústily v teroristické útoky, na které nebyly Spojené státy připraveny. Další kapitola popisuje útoky z 11tého září, po nichž se Bushova administrativa ujala nového, tvrdšího přístupu k řešení zahraničně-politických problémů. To přineslo neblahé následky na vztahy Spojených států s mezinárodním společenstvím. Třetí kapitola pojednává o vojenské odpovědi útokem na Afganistán a následným tlakem Bushovy administrativy na světové společenství ohledně útoku na Irák. Čtvrtá část se zaměřuje na okupaci Iráku s jejími světlými i stinnými stránkami. Poslední dvě kapitoly se zabývají geopolitickými a ekonomickými důsledky Bushovy „ jestřábí politiky“, které poznamenaly přinejmenším první dvě dekády 21. století.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with a change of American foreign policy after George W. Bush took an oath of office. After the attacks of 9/11, Bush and his team have taken a new strategy of foreign affairs which brought mixed reactions of the world public and their political representatives. Non friendly atmosphere had come especially after the American invasion of Iraq and its following occupation. The thesis is divided into five main chapters. The first one deals with the history and consequences of United States’ foreign policies in the second half of twentieth century that led to a surprising terrorist attacks on their soil. The next chapter describes the attacks of 9/11 and their effect on the American public and its politicians. The third one reveals the U.S. military attack on Afghanistan and the Bush’s administration case for Iraq invasion at the UN. The fourth chapter focuses on the Iraq occupation showing its achievements as well as its failures. The last one looks back at the aftermath of war due to Bush’s ‘hawkish politics’ that stigmatized the first two decades of the 21st century.
