Abstract:

Tato práce analyzuje trilogii Pán Prstenů anglického spisovatele J.R.R. Tolkiena a její filmovou adaptaci napsanou Peterem Jacksonem a Fran Walshovou analyticko-psychologickou metodou C. Junga, která je založena na existenci mytologických archetypů a jejich manifestaci v Tolkienově příběhu. Aby byly filmy přístupnější mainstreamovému publiku, scénář musel být pozměněn, což zasáhlo jak příběh samotný, tak postavy v něm vystupující, stejně tak jako mytologické archetypy které reprezentují v knižní verzi. Dopad těchto změn na celkové vyznění příběhu a jednotlivé postavy je demonstrován na několika různých postavách a archetypech které představují. Tato práce se nejprve zabývá obhajobou psychologicko-analytického přístupu k Pánovi Prstenů, za použití paralel z Tolkienova a Jungova života a tvorby a faktu, že Pán Prstenů je ve své podstatě mytologické dílo, přestože fiktivní. Poté jsou popsány samotné archetypy které jsou diskutovány v práci jako takové, za použití prací Junga a jeho kolegyně Marie-Louisy von Franz. Vlastní tělo práce se zabývá analýzou archetypu Stínu na příkladech vztahu Gluma a Froda a také Gandalfa a Balroga. Poté je zmíněn proces individualizace a to, jakým způsobem ho Jackson pozměnil ve filmech, na příkladu vývoje postavy čaroděje Gandalfa. Nakonec se práce věnuje archetypu Hrdiny na příkladu Aragorna a jeho vztahu k jeho dědičnému království a jeho vyvolené Arwen. Psychologicko-analytický přístup k postavám a archetypům je porovnáván s Jacksonovou představou Pána Prstenů a to jakým způsobem zfilmování příběhu ovlivnilo vnímání archetypických postav.

Abstract:

This B.A. thesis uses a Jungian analytical psychological approach to compare The Lord of the Rings books and their story with their cinematic adaptation written by Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh. In order to make the films more appealing to the mainstream audience, the screenplay had to take some liberties with the original, altering the story and characters, impacting the Jungian archetypes that they represented. The impact of these changes on the outcome of the story and its effects is demonstrated on several characters and archetypes. Firstly, the relevance of the Jungian analysis is discussed and proven based on the parallels in the worldview and writing of Tolkien and Jung and the fact that Tolkien’s work is mythical in nature. Then the archetypes mentioned in the thesis are explained using the works of C. Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz. In the body of the thesis, the archetype of Shadow is analyzed on the examples of relationships between Gollum and Frodo and then between Gandalf and Balrog, then the archetypal process of individuation and changes made to it by Jackson are analyzed on the example of Gandalf’s character development and finally, the archetype of the Hero is analyzed on the example of Aragorn. The approach to the Jungian reading of the story is compared with the viewing experience of the movies and the ways the story is altered and the characters and their feel changed through the lens of Jung’s archetypes.
