Active ageing according to the generation 75+

Abstract:

Tématem diplomové práce je aktivní stárnutí v období vlastního stáří. Aktivní stárnutí je zkoumáno ze dvou hledisek – na jedné straně jako teoretický koncept se značným potenciálem zlepšit roli seniorů ve společnosti, na druhé straně jako žitá zkušenost konkrétních aktérů tohoto konceptu. Teoretická část práce tedy přináší analýzu geneze konceptu aktivního stárnutí, jeho vývoje a způsobů, jakými byl tento koncept interpretován v strategických politických dokumentech. Druhou teoretickou linkou je náhled na seniorskou populaci. Na základě odborné literatury byly popsány biologické, psychické a sociální aspekty procesu stárnutí a pozice seniorů ve společnosti. Na závěr dochází k prolnutí těchto perspektiv v otázce: Jak vypadá aktivní stárnutí podle seniorů ve věku vlastního stáří, tedy 75+? Empirická část práce je koncipována jako kvalitativní výzkum v designu zakotvené teorie. Jejím cílem je odhalit představy seniorů o aktivním stárnutí, hodnotu, jakou aktivitě ve svém věku přikládají a v neposlední řadě skutečnou aktivitu v jejich životě ve spojení s faktory, jež tuto aktivitu ovlivňují.

Abstract:

The thesis in hand discusses the issue of active ageing in very-old age. The topic of active ageing is analyzed from two points of view: firstly as a promising theoretical concept having a great potential to positively influence the role of seniors in the society. The second point of view shows active ageing as the real vital experiences of the older people. Theoretical part thus analyzes genesis and formation of the concept together with changing his interpretation in political strategies as well as the topic of older population with biological, psychological and social aspects of getting old. These two sides of active ageing are combined in the fundamental question: How does active ageing according to the very-old generation look like? The empirical part of the thesis provides qualitative research using grounded theory methods. This research aims on revealing older people definitions of active ageing. It tries to understand how they value being active, which activities they undertake as well as the main factors influencing the entire process.
