Preparation of the floating carbon materials

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce bylo snížením hustoty připravit plovoucí uhlíkatý materiál na bázi uhlíkatého xerogelu. Hustota byla snižována napěňováním polykondenzační směsi nebo přídavkem nadlehčovadla (korku) a všechny připravené zpyrolyzované materiály byly podrobeny testováním doby plování na hladině kapaliny. Jako nejperspektivnější plovoucí materiály se ukázaly uhlíkaté xerogely s přídavkem nadlehčovadla do kysele katalyzované polykondenzační směsi. Ty plovaly na hladině kapaliny v řádu měsíců. Bylo zjištěno, že také čistý RFA uhlíkatý xerogel, připravený bez snahy snížit jeho hustotu, je vhodným materiálem pro plování na hladině kapaliny, jedná-li se o plování nezatížené vlivem mechanického třepání. Materiály připravené napěňováním polykondenzační směsi plovaly pouze v rámci dní, navíc jsou tyto metody poměrně technicky náročné. Nevhodnými materiály pro plování jsou xerogely na bázi alkalicky katalyzované polykondenzační směsi. Na vybraných vzorcích byla provedena adsorpce methylenové modři, na základě které bylo zjištěno, že materiály s přídavkem korku vykazují lepší adsorpční vlastnosti v porovnání s materiály připravenými ostatními metodami.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to prepare floating carbonaceous material based on carbonaceous xerogel by reducing its density. Density was reduced by foaming of the polycondensation mixture or by addition of the lightweight substrate (cork). All of the prepared pyrolysed materials were subjected to a floating time test at the fluid level. The most promising floating materials showed up to be carbonaceous xerogels with addiction of the lightweight substrate to an acidic-catalyzed polycondensation mixture. These has been floating on the surface of the liquid for months. It has been found that also usual RFA carbonaceous xerogel, which was prepared without reducing density, is suitable material for floating on the level of liquid in case that this floating is not affected by mechanical shaking. Materials which has been prepared by foaming of the polycondensation mixture were floated only for days. Futhermore these methods are relatively technically difficult. Unsuitable materials for floating are xerogels based on an alkaline-catalysed polycondensation mixture. Adsorption of methylene blue was performed on the selected materials. It was found that materials with the addition of a cork showed better adsorption properties than the other prepared materials.
