Abstract:

Disertační práce si klade za cíl prozkoumat možnost využití neoweberiánských přístupů ke zhodnocení vlivu Jednoty bratrské na dlouhodobé společenské procesy popisované v teoriích sekularizace a modernizace. Současně nabízí systematičtější a teoreticky zakotvenou interpretaci nauky Petra Chelčického a Lukáše Pražského a důslednou komparaci díla těchto významných osobností české reformace. Petr Chelčický svým učením inspiroval zrod Jednoty bratrské a Lukáš Pražský výrazně přispěl k její dramatické myšlenkové i organizační transformaci na přelomu 15. a 16. století. Výzkum je inspirován „historizací sekularizační debaty“ P. Gorskiho a metodologickým přístupem Davida d’Avraye. Za využití pojmů a vztahů teorií sekularizace a modernizace (byrokratizace, racionalizace, diferenciace, legitimizace, individualismus, etické zdůvodnění práce) rozkresluje vztahy mezi prvky v učení obou myslitelů a odhaluje vliv Jednoty bratrské na zmíněné procesy. Pomocí analyticky využitých ideálních typů „sekta“ a „církev“ také popisuje proměnu Jednoty bratrské na přelomu 15. a 16. století, identifikuje klíčové faktory těchto změn a nabízí komplexnější pohled na Jednotu bratrskou jako náboženskou organizaci. V případě diferenciačních procesů se stávající teorie sekularizace ukazují jako nedostatečné a povrchní. Proces odkouzlení světa a spásy naopak odpovídá teoretickým předpokladům a dokonce se prokazuje jako odolný i v rámci generační obměny. Jednota bratrská také vytvořila sadu mechanismů disciplinace a konfesionalizace, které podporovaly procesy laicizace a demokratizace spásy. Důsledkem se stala nitrosvětská askeze, která svým charakterem připomíná švýcarskou reformaci. V dřívějším bádání dramaticky vykreslovaný zlom v době Lukáše Pražského se optikou neoweberiánských přístupů jeví jako výrazně komplexnější. Lukáš Pražský ve svém myšlení zachovává mnoho východisek Petra Chelčického. Navzdory otevření Jednoty bratrské světu byla nadále identita Jednoty bratrské a jejích členů založena na napětí vůči většinové společnosti a na pocitu výlučnosti a vyvolení Bohem.

Abstract:

This dissertation aims to investigate the possibility of using neo-Weberian approaches to evaluate the influence of Unity of the Brethren on long-term social processes described in theories of secularization and modernization. Simultaneously, it provides a more systematic and theoretical interpretation of the doctrines of Petr Chelčický and Lukáš Pražský, along with a comprehensive comparison of works of these prominent figures of Czech Reformation. Petr Chelčický's teachings inspired the establishment of the Unity of the Brethren, while Lukáš Pražský significantly contributed to its profound ideological and organizational transformation during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. This research draws inspiration from P. Gorski's "historicization of the secularization debate" and David d'Avray's methodological approach. Employing the concepts and relationships of theories of secularization and modernization (bureaucratization, rationalization, differentiation, legitimization, individualism, ethical justification of work), the study unveils the connections within the teachings of both thinkers and highlights the influence of the Unity of the Brethren on the aforementioned processes. The transformation of the Unity of the Brethren during the late 15th and early 16th centuries is elucidated through the ideal types of "sect" and "church," identifying key drivers of these changes and offering a more comprehensive perspective on the Unity of the Brethren as and religious organization. Existing theories of secularization were found to be inadequate and superficial in the context of differentiation processes. Conversely, the process of disenchantment of the world and salvation aligns with theoretical assumptions and remains resilient even despite generational shifts. Mechanisms of disciplination and confessionalization were devised during the time of Lukáš Pražský, supporting the processes of laicization and democratization of salvation. This resulted in an inner-worldly asceticism, reminiscent of the Swiss Reformation in its form. While previous research described the turning point during Lukáš Pražský's time as dramatic, the neo-Weberian approach reveals these changes to be much more intricate. Lukáš Pražský retains many of Petr Chelčický's foundational ideas in his thinking. Despite the Unity of the Brethren's openness to the world, its identity and the identity of its members continued to be rooted in tension between the Unity and majority of society, along with a sense of exclusivity and divine election.
