Nest-site fidelity of Tengmalm’s owl (Aegolius funereus) in the Ore Mts. in 2006 - 2016

Abstract:

V této práci je hodnocena věková struktura a věrnost hnízdících jedinců sýce rousného (Aegolius funereus) k hnízdní oblasti v Krušných horách v letech 2006 až 2016. Zjišťován je zejména vliv početnosti potravní nabídky na věkovou strukturu hnízdní populace a věrnost hnízdících jedinců k hnízdní oblasti (tzv. fidelita) a jejich vztah k reprodukční úspěšnosti. Tato témata nebyla ve studijní oblasti doposud hodnocena. Studijní plocha je situována v imisemi poškozené východní části Krušných hor v oblasti Flájské přehrady na ploše 70 km2. Ve studovaném období bylo odchyceno celkem 222 jedinců (101 samců a 121 samic). Průměrná věková struktura samic sýce rousného byla 2,3 + - 1,2 let, u samců byla 2,7 + - 1,1 let. Nebylo prokázáno, že reprodukční úspěšnost závisí na věku hnízdících samic, ani samců. Věková struktura samic i samců se meziročně nelišila. Zároveň nebyl odlišný věk hnízdících samců od věku hnízdících samic. Nebylo prokázáno, že věková skladba hnízdní populace je závislá na početnosti potravní nabídky. Bylo zaznamenáno 36 jedinců (16,2 %) věrných studijní oblasti (tzn. tito jedinci hnízdili ve studijní oblasti minimálně dvakrát). Byl prokázán signifikantní rozdíl mezi věrností samic a samců. Věrnost studijní oblasti byla větší u samců než u samic (průměrně 4,1 + - 3,1 věrných samců / rok vs. průměrně 3,2 + - 2,2 věrných samic / rok). Dále bylo prokázáno, že reprodukční úspěšnost je ovlivněna fidelitou samic. Samice věrné studijní oblasti produkovaly vyšší počet mláďat (průměrně 3,5 + - 2,3 vylétlých mláďat / hnízdo) než samice kočovné (průměrně 2,5 + - 2,1 vylétlých mláďat / hnízdo). Tento vliv nebyl prokázán u samců. Bylo také zjištěno, že věrnost samců i samic ke studijní oblasti je závislá na početnosti potravní nabídky. Se zvyšující se početností potravní nabídky se zvyšuje fidelita hnízdících samců i samic ke studijní oblasti. Informace o věkové struktuře a fidelitě hnízdících jedinců sýce rousného v Krušných horách, ale i v ostatních studijních oblastech, jsou vzácné a předložená studie tak poskytuje cenné výsledky.

Abstract:

This thesis evaluates the age structure and the loyalty of the breeding individuals of Tengmalm's owl (Aegolius funereus) to the nesting area in Ore Mountains, in the years 2006 to 2016. The influence of the abundance of the food supply on the age structure of the breeding population and the loyalty of the nesting individuals to the nesting area (a.k.a fidelity) and their relation to the reproductive success were mainly investigated. Those issues have not yet been evaluated in the academic background. The study area is situated in the eastern polluted part of Ore Mountains located in the surroundings of the Fláje reservoir on the area of 70km2. 222 individuals were caught there during the studied season, 101 males and 121 females. An average age structure of a female of Tengmalm's owl was 2,3 + - 1,2 years, and male's was 2,7 + - 1,1 years. It was not proven that the age of the nesting females or males has any impact on the reproductive succes. The age structure of females and males does not vary in years. Simultaneously, the age of the nesting males did not differ from the age of nesting females. It was not proven that the age structure of the breeding population is dependant on the abundance of the food supply. 36 faithful individuals to the study area (16,2 %) were found there (i.e. those individuals nested minimal twice in the study area). It was proven that there is a significant difference between the loyalty of males and females. The loyalty to the study area was greater among males than females (average 4,1 + - 3,1 loyal males / year vs. average 3,2 + - 2,2 loyal females / year). Futher was found that the reproductive success is dependent on the fidelity of females. Females faithful to the study area produced more fledlings (average 3,5 + - 2,3 fledlings / nest) than nomadic females (average 2,5 + - 2,1 fledlings / nest). This effect was not proven among males. The loyalty of males and females to the nesting area is dependant on the abundance of the food supply. As the abundance of the food supply increases, increases the fidelity of breeding males and females to the study area. Information about the age structure and the fidelity of the Tengmalm's owl nesting population in Ore Mountains, even in other study areas, are rare, therefore this study provides valuable results.
