Voice quality

Abstract:

Jedná se o práci, jejíž náplní bylo zhodnocení stavu hlasu u pacientů s patologií v oblasti horních cest dýchacích. Cílem bylo zjistit, zda se daná patologie a její léčba podepisuje na hlasové kvalitě a zda se její vliv odráží i na subjektivním vnímání vlastního hlasu samotnými pacienty. Teoretická část se sestává ze stručného popisu anatomie a fyziologie fonačního ústrojí, popisu objektivních a subjektivních vyšetřovacích metod hlasu, dále z příkladů patologií s možným vlivem na hlasovou kvalitu a ze zásad prevence hlasových poruch aplikovatelných pro běžnou populaci. Praktická část byla zpracována na základě údajů naměřených u souboru 11 pacientů s patologií v oblasti horních cest dýchacích, z nichž se jednalo o 10 mužů a 1 ženu, průměrný věk byl 59 let (SD 6,84; minimum 46; maximum 71 let). Všem byla provedena hlasová analýza za užití počítačového programu LingWaves. Respondentům byla rovněž rozdána česká verze standardizovaného dotazníku VHI pro stanovení indexu hlasového postižení (Voice Handicap Index). Výsledky byly převedeny do programu Microsoft Office Excel, pomocí popisné statistiky zpracovány a následně statisticky vyhodnoceny za užití Fisherova exaktního testu na hladině významnosti 5 %. Přestože se u mnohých pacientů onemocnění i jeho následná léčba podepsali na výsledcích hlasové analýzy, statistický test nezjistil závislost u žádné z formulovaných hypotéz (p>0,05). Nicméně hodnocení bylo výrazně limitováno nízkým počtem respondentů v důsledku omezeného vykonávání zákroků tohoto typu během pandemie onemocnění COVID-19, proto je potřeba výsledky vnímat jen jako orientační. Studie je pouze pilotním výzkumem a pro získání validnějších výsledků je potřeba metodiku aplikovat na soubor o větším počtu osob.

Abstract:

The purpose of this thesis was to examine the voice condition of the patients with pathology located in upper respiratory tract. The aim was to find out whether the pathology affects the voice quality and if its influence is reflected on the subjective perception of patients' own voice. The theoretical part consists of anatomy and physiology of the vocal tract, description of the objective and subjective voice examination methods, the examples of pathologies with a possible impact on the voice quality and the recommendations for voice disorders' prevention applicable to the general population. The practical part was created on the basis of data measured in 11 patients with pathology located in upper respiratory tract. There were 10 men and 1 woman, the mean age was 59 years (SD 6,84; min 46; max 71 years). All of them completed the computerized voice analysis using LingWaves program. A Czech version of the standardized Voice Handicap Index questionnaire was distributed to all respondents. The results were converted to Microsoft Office Excel and processed using descriptive statistics, then statistically evaluated using Fisher's exact test at a significance level of 5 %. Although in many patients the pathology and its treatment were reflected on the results of the voice analysis, the statistical hypothesis testing did not find any correlation in the formulated hypothesis (p>0,05). However, the evaluation was limited by the low number of respondents due to the limited implementation of this type of interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic, so the results should be considered as indicative only. It is a pilot study and in order to obtain more valid results it is necessary to apply the methodology to larger number of people.
