Davidson's conception of truth

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje koncepci pravdy ve filosofii Donalda Davidsona. Nejprve práce uvádí do problematiky odlišných filosofických teorií pravdy. Následně je hlavním zájmem popsat pravdu v rámci filosofického programu Donalda Davidsona. Tento pokus je komplikován obsahem Davidsonovy koncepce pravdy, proto nejprve musím objasnit Davidsonův filosofický program, jeho motivy a ambice. Poté následuje popis Tarského sémantické teorie pravdy, která je využita pro sémantickou teorii přirozených jazyků. Davidson se domnívá, že pravda je důležitý koncept a velká část mé práce se zabývá vztahy mezi pravdou a jinými důležitými koncepty, protože je to jeden z mála způsobů, jak může být pravda vyložena. Nakonec práce porovnává Davidsonův názor s konkurenčními teoriemi a snaží se poskytnout pozitivní popis Davidsonovy myšlenky.

Abstract:

This work deals with the conception of truth in the Donald Davidson´s philosophy. First of all, the work introduces the problem of different philosophical theories of truth. Subsequently, the main concern is to describe the truth within the broader philosophical program of Donald Davidson. This attempt is complicated by the content of Davidson?s conception of truth, so first I have to explain Davidson?s philosophical program, his motives and ambitions. After that follows the description of Tarski?s semantic theory of truth, which is applied by Davidson on the semantic theory of natural languages. Davidson believes that truth is an important concept and large part of my work concerns with relations between truth and others important concepts, because it is one of the few ways, how the truth can be explained. In the end, the work compares Davidson?s view with rival theories with the aim to provide some positive account of the Davidson?s idea.
