Foreign investment and its impact on the Slovak economy

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to acquaint with foreign investments in Slovakia and by means of analysis to asses the conditions they are in and their development during a particular period. It also includes the evaluation of their impact on the efficiency of the Slovak economy. Subsequently, the thesis defines Slovak economy weaknesses and tries to provide effective solutions. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first one deals with a theoretical description of the foreign investments and their classifications. It discusses the development of the Slovak economy in the period of transformation as well as it points out at the investments from the point of legislative matter. The second chapter depicts the analysis objectives and the way how investments can be analyzed. The third one examines the development of the foreign investments in Slovakia from 2004 to 2009. The last chapter, using the regression and correlation analysis, focuses on the influence of the direct foreign investments on markoekonické ukazovatele of economic growth like: GDP, balance of trade and balance of payments or unemployment.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto diplomovej práce je priblížiť celkový stav zahraničných investícií na Slovensku a prostredníctvom analýzy zhodnotiť ich úroveň a vývoj za jednotlivé obdobie. Zároveň vyhodnotiť ich dopad na slovenskú ekonomiku z hľadiska výkonnosti a následne na to definovať nedostatky a navrhnúť opatrenia na ich zlepšenie. Práca je rozdelená do štyroch kapitol. Prvá kapitola je venovaná teoretickému popisu investícií a ich členeniu a zároveň nám pomáha priblížiť vývoj ekonomiky Slovenska v čase transformácie, ako aj poukázať na rozmer zahraničných investícií prostredníctvom legislatívneho rámca. Druhá kapitola popisuje cieľ a spôsob analýzy zahraničných investícií a tretia kapitola charakterizuje už samotný vývoj priamych zahraničných investícií na Slovensku počas obdobia rokov 2004 – 2009. Posledná kapitola skúma prostredníctvom korelačnej a regresnej analýzy vplyv priamych zahraničných investícií na makroekonomické ukazovatele ekonomického rastu, akým je napr. HDP, saldo bežného účtu platobnej bilancie alebo nezamestnanosť.
