Bečva 2020: Environmental accident as a catalyst for civic activism

Abstract:

Tato případová studie se zabývá občanským a environmentálním aktivismem, který se vzedmul v reakci na ekologickou havárii na řece Bečvě ve Valašském Meziříčí v září roku 2020, a jeho vývojem od počátku kauzy do prvních měsíců roku 2023. Práce s vědomím specifického českého kontextu zkoumá mnohost aktérů a forem tohoto aktivismu, vztahy mezi aktéry, konkrétní repertoár činností, strategie sebeprezentace směrem k veřejnosti a přesahy této sítě i do jiných kauz či oblastí společenského života.

Abstract:

This case study deals with civil and environmental activism that emerged in response to the ecological disaster on the Bečva River in Valašské Meziříčí in September 2020, and its development from the beginning of the case to the first months of 2023. The work, with an awareness of the specific Czech context, examines the multitude of actors and forms of this activism, the relationships between actors, specific repertoire of activities, strategies of self-presentation towards the public, and the overlaps of this network into other cases or areas of social life.
