Opium in Iran

Abstract:

Pokud bychom mohli účinky drog na lidský organismus popsat jen těmito slovy, byly by drogy jistě součástí života každého z nás. Je zde však i druhá strana, která ani zdaleka není tak fascinující, jako ta první, a je důvodem, proč drogám připisujeme tak obávaný respekt, a zároveň s nimi tak přehnaně opovrhujeme.2 Užívání drog v různých podobách a formách je v globálním měřítku fenoménem, který nás provází po tisíciletí, a ani v dnešním světě tomu není jinak. Drogy společnost fascinovaly již v dobách dávných civilizací, kdy tišily bolest i mysl, a odpoutávaly tak od strastí života, stejně jako je tomu dnes. Tyto látky vždy nabízely jedinečnou možnost rychlého a účinného řešení, jak na okamžik zapomenout na skutečnost reality kolem nás, a vstoupit do světa, který nám alespoň na chvíli plně rozumí.

Abstract:

I focused my bachelor thesis on the subject of opium in Iran. Opium is the main product of Opium poppy (Papaver somniferum), which is famous and popular for its stimulant effects on the human body and in the past it was used in medicine very often. Actual medicine uses just pure alkaloids (morphine) extracted from opium plant. I based some parts of my bachelor thesis on my own research in the Islamic republic of Iran in 2014. I described the ways of opium smoking as I could see them with my own eyes. To describe opium history I used many literature and internet sources which I listed at the end of my bachelor thesis. Parts about cultivation, harvesting, producing and making opium in Afghanistan are described in accordance with the internet media sources and educational books about drugs and narcotic plants point of view. A relatively large part of my work is focused on the way of opium ritual use, especially smoking. There are two main ways of opium use in Iran. Drug users can eat raw opium or smoke it. Following my own research in Iran, Iranian opium users prefer to smoke opium with traditional equipment or use only straw to save their time. In my bachelor thesis I described whole process of harvesting opium from Opium poppy and following process of making raw opium. Last parts of my work are focused on opium smuggling over Iranian borders and opium transferring across Iran to the rest of the whole world including description of smuggling routes. In my own opinion drugs in the area of The Golden crescent will stay as the biggest problem for a long time. Opium and drug wars are donated by money from drugs and that is the reason why Opium poppy fields have to be fired up at first.
