Oriental and egyptians influences in early greek art in the Iron age

Abstract:

Diploma thesis Oriental and Egyptian influences in early Greek art of the Iron Age deals with possible impacts of oriental cultures (mainly Neoassyrian Empire, Uratu, Neo-hittite states and Phoenicians) on Greek art, especially during the 8th and 7th century B.C. (lategeometric and orientalizing period in Greek). At the beginning, there is a brief introduction to a historical backrounds. Next chapter deals whit materials, which have been used for production of small sculpture, as well as potential effects on the working-out of these materials. The main part of the thesis is an analysis of individual impact of other cultures in the Greek art in lategeometric and orientalizing period, focusing mostly on vase painting and small sculptures and briefly deals with the general development of ceramics and sculpture in this period.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca orientálne a egyptské podnety v rannom gréckom umení doby železnej sa zaoberá možnými vplyvmi orientálnych kultúr (hlavne Novoasýrskej ríše, Uratu, neskorochetistkých štátov a Feníčanov) na grécke umenie, predovšetkým v priebehu ôsmeho a siedmeho storočia pred Kristom (neskorogeometrické a orientalizujúce obdobie v Grécku). Na začiatku je stručne zachytená história. Ďalšia kapitola sa venuje materiálom, ktoré boli používané na výrobu plastiky, rovnako ako aj prípadné vplyvy na spracovanie týchto materiálov. Hlavnú časť práce tvorí rozbor jednotlivých vplyvov iných kultúr v gréckom umení v neskorogeometrickom a orientalizujúcom období, zameraných predovšetkým na vázové maliarstvo a malú plastiku a stručne zachycuje celkový vývoj keramiky a plastiky v tomto období v Grécku.
