The bachelor thesis “Instant messaging” (IM) is concerned in characteristic of this Internet communication form, it's history and usage. The first part of the thesis provides a description of IM communication and comparation of the best known IM protocols and clients. In the second part Java IM client for XMPP protocol is designed.
