The causes of the conflict in the Crimea and its solution

Abstract:

Tématem této diplomové práce je jeden z nejsledovanějších konfliktů, ke kterému došlo v roce 2014 na ukrajinském poloostrově Krym a který do současné doby není finálně vyřešen. V první teoretické části jsou popsány obecné definice konfliktů a jejich rozdělení. Je popsán obecný průběh konfliktu, jeho eskalace a deeskalace, a možné způsoby jejich řešení. V této části je popsáno také právo na sebeurčení národů a princip územní integrity. K dodržování těchto zásad se v roce 1945 podpisem Charty Organizace spojených národů zavázal také Svaz sovětských socialistických republik. Anexí poloostrova Krym však tyto zásady porušil. Druhá část práce je zaměřena na popis Ukrajiny a Krymu z geografického a demografického hlediska, ale také z hlediska historického. Geografická poloha Krym, národnostní složení jeho obyvatel a historické události na Ukrajině a Krymu jsou jedněmi z příčin vzniku tohoto konfliktu. Ve třetí části je popsán průběh samotného konfliktu počínaje odmítnutím ukrajinského prezidenta Janukovyče podepsat asociační dohodu s Evropskou unií, přes obsazení Krymu neoznačenými vojáky Ruské federace, až po referendum o sjednocení Krymu s Ruskou federací. V závěru diplomové práce jsou uvedeny motivy, které vedly Ruskou federaci k takovému jednání, opatření - sankce přijaté nejen Ukrajinou a Evropskou unií vůči Rusku za porušení mezinárodního práva. Také jsou zde vyjádřeny názory některých politických osobností, například českého prezidenta Miloše Zemana, a návrh na možné řešení tohoto konfliktu.

Abstract:

The topic of this thesis is one of the most watched conflicts that occurred in 2014 in the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, and which is not yet solved. The first theoretical part describes general definitions of conflicts and their distribution. It describes the general course of the conflict, its escalation and deescalation, and possible ways of solving them. This section also describes the right to self-determination of nations and the principle of territorial integrity. In 1945, with the signing of the United Nations Charter, the USSR also committed itself to adhering to these principles. However, the annexation of the Crimea peninsula has violated these principles. The second part of the thesis is focused on the description of Ukraine and Crimea from geographical and demographic point of view, but also from historical point of view. The geographic location of Crimea, the ethnic composition of its inhabitants, and the historical events in Ukraine and Crimea are one of the causes of this conflict. The third part describes the course of the conflict, starting with the rejection of Ukrainian President Yanukovych to sign an association agreement with the European Union, despite the occupation of Crimea by unmarked soldiers of the Russian Federation, to the referendum on the unification of the Crimea with the Russian Federation. At the end of the thesis, the motives that led the Russian Federation to such behaviour, measures - sanctions adopted not only by Ukraine and the European Union towards Russia for violation of international law - are mentioned. There are also some political figures, such as Czech President Miloš Zeman, and a proposal for a possible solution to this conflict.
