The disappearing brown frog (Rana temporaria): a revision of knowledge about a previously common species in Czechia and Europe

Abstract:

Rana temporaria patří do rodu Rana, čeledi Ranidae a řádu Anura. Dříve jedna z nejhojnějších žab v Evropě je dnes nejrychleji mizící žábou z naší krajiny. V České republice se této problematice doposud nevěnovala přílišná pozornost, ale studie v Evropě zaznamenávají pokles jeho populací. Existuje mnoho faktorů, jež negativně ovlivňují populace tohoto druhu. Na základě dostupných studií vyplývá, že nejvíce ohrožující je zejména ztráta jejich přirozeného prostředí, znečištění, zahrnující globální změny klimatu a nepůvodní invazivní druhy. Rešeršní shrnutí recentních vědeckých poznatků o fylogenezi, rozšíření a příčinách mizení tohoto druhu z krajiny se věnuje tato bakalářská práce.

Abstract:

The species Rana temporaria belongs to the genus Rana, the family Ranidae, the order Anura. One of the most abundant frogs in Europe, today it is the fastest disappearing frog from our landscape. In the Czech Republic, not much attention has been paid to this issue so far, but studies in Europe record a decline in its populations. There are many factors that negatively affect populations of this species. Based on the available studies, it follows that the most threatening is the loss of their natural environment, pollution, including global climate change and non-native invasive species. This Bachelor's Thesis is devoted to a research summary of recent scientific findings on the phylogeny, distribution and causes of the disappearance of this species from the landscape.
