Curatorial praxis during the lockdown period during COVID-19 in the Czech and Slovak Republic

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou prezentace vizuálního umění během karanténních opatření v rámci pandemie COVID-19, kdy jsou galerie uzavřeny. Práce se zabývá aktuálními kurátorskými strategiemi a jejich online transformacemi v souvislosti s omezeným provozem kulturních institucí. Skládá ze dvou hlavních částí. První část stručně představuje kurátorství jako takové. Druhá část práce představu-je kurátorské projekty, které nějakým způsobem reflektují období pandemie a zkušenost s ní, a taktéž originálně zpracované výstavy, které nejsou pouhým překlopením do virtuálního světa. Vlastní kapitolu si zasloužila Cena Jindřicha Chalupeckého 2020, která přinesla mnoho změn. Závěr práce stručně popisuje přechod galerií do online módu. Cílem práce je zmapovat tyto kurátorské strategie.

Abstract:

This master's thesis deals with the issue of presentation of visual art during quaran-tine measures within the Covid-19 pandemic, when the galleries are closed. The the-sis deals with current curatorial strategies and their online transformations in con-nection with the limited operation of cultural institutions. The work consists of two main parts. The first part briefly introduces curation as such. The second part of the work presents curatorial projects that in some way reflect the period of the pan-demic and the experience with it, as well as the original exhibitions, which are not just a flip into the virtual world. The Jindřich Chalupecký Award 2020, which brought many changes, deserved its own chapter. The last part of the thesis briefly describes the transition of galleries to online mode. The aim of this work is to map these curatorial strategies.
