Professional foster carers - working conditions of foster care for a temporary period

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je nahlédnout na pěstounskou péči na přechodnou dobu (PPPD) z perspektivy sociologie jako na specifickou profesi na rozhraní péče a práce, vyznačující se specifickými pracovními podmínkami. PPPD představuje jednu z forem náhradní rodinné péče, do které je pěstounům svěřeno dítě, které vyžaduje akutní pomoc. Jedná se o situaci, kdy rodiče nebo zákonní zástupci nedokážou plnit funkce vyplývající z jejich role ve vztahu k dítěti. Pěstouni na přechodnou dobu jsou školené osoby poskytující intenzivní, nepřetržitou péči dítěti, které ji aktuálně vyžaduje. Za svou práci pobírají pěstouni odměnu, a jejich profese naplňuje některé z charakteristik zaměstnání, přesto však výkon PPPD není zaměstnáním. Teoretická část empirické práce je proto zaměřena na charakteristiku tohoto typu náhradní rodinné péče jakožto profese a jeho ukotvení v rámci sociologických teorií. Usiluje také o vymezení socio-ekonomických rozdílů mezi výkonem PPPD a zaměstnáním. Praktická část je založena na realizaci kvalitativního výzkumu, jehož cílem je porozumět subjektivnímu vnímání výkonu PPPD a jeho pracovních podmínek samotnými pěstouny.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to look at foster care for a temporary time from the perspective of sociology as a specific profession at the interface of care and work, characterized by specific working conditions. Foster care for a temporary time represents one form of foster family care, in which foster parents are entrusted with a child who requires acute assistance. This is a situation where parents or legal guardians are unable to fulfil the functions arising from their role in relation to the child. Interim foster carers are trained persons who provide intensive, round-the-clock care to a child who currently requires it. Foster carers are remunerated for their work, and their profession fulfils some of the characteristics of employment, yet the provision of foster care for a temporary time is not employment. The theoretical part of the empirical work is therefore focused on the characteristics of this type of foster family care as a profession and its anchoring within sociological theories. It also seeks to delineate the socio-economic differences between the performance of foster care for a temporary time and employment. The practical part is based on the implementation of qualitative research aimed at understanding the subjective perception of the performance of PPPD and its working conditions by foster carers themselves.
