Barriers before entering long-term residential addiction treatment among injection drug users at middle age and older adulthood - focused on Self-Esteem and Self-Efficacy

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce bylo zmapovat bariéry před vstupem do dlouhodobé pobytové léčby závislostí u injekčních uživatelů návykových látek ve věkovém rozmezí střední a starší dospělosti a pokusit se nalézt možné souvislosti s psychologickými koncepty Self-Esteem a Self-Efficacy. Teoretická část přináší přehled a popis pojmů s tímto tématem spojených. V empirické části je představen kvalitativní výzkum. Data byla sesbírána formou polostrukturovaných interview. Výzkumný soubor byl tvořen 8 respondenty, ve věkovém rozmezí 38-54 let, respondenti byli aktivními injekčními uživateli, bez zkušenosti s nástupem do dlouhodobé pobytové léčby závislostí. Data byla zanalyzována metodou zakotvené teorie. Za bariéry bylo identifikováno 6 kategorií: Zkreslené informace o léčbě závislostí v terapeutické komunitě, Negativní zkušenost s léčbou, Opakovaný výkon trestu odnětí svobody, Přesvědčení léčba rovná se jen abstinence, Strach z budoucnosti po léčbě, Strach z nezaplnění prázdnoty. Jako centrální byla určena kategorie Stáří – tato kategorie není sama o sobě bariérou, ale byla označena jako katalyzátorem všech bariér, jenž ostatní kategorie umocňuje. V rozhovorech se objevovala data samostatně tvořící kategorii Self-Esteem a Self-Efficacy, její vztah s bariérami byl označen jako: některé kategorie bariér utvářejí aktuální Self-Esteem a Self-Efficacy. Byl vytušen vliv této kategorie na tvorbu rozhodnutí ke vstupu do léčby, ovšem z dat nebyl jasně průkazný.

Abstract:

The main goal of these thesis is to examine Barriers before entering long-term residential addiction treatment among injection drug users at middle age and older adulthood and try to find correspondence with psychological concepts of Self-Esteem and Self-Efficacy. The theoretical part brings perspective and description of terms associated with these subject matter. The empirical part presents qualitative research. Data were collected with methodological accuracy of half-structured interviews. The research sample was created by 8 respondents in age interval from 38 to 54 years. All of them were active drug through injection users without any previous experience with entering long-term residential addiction treatment. Methodologically collected data was analyzed by anchored theory. As barriers are identified six cathegories: garbled informations on addictions treatment in therapeutic community, negative experience with treatment, repetitive imprisonment, common belief that treatment means abstinence, fear of post-treatment tomorrows, fear of unfilled so called inner emptiness. As a focal category we have chosen senescence that is not the barrier itself but is an important accelerant of all known barriers that exponentiate all other categories. In the interviews has appeared so called Self-Esteem and Self-Efficasy discrete data correlated with barriers as some categories of barriers create current Self Esteem and Self Efficacy. The influence of these categories on the decision to undergo treatment had been foretasted but was not confirmed.
