Genealogical divergence of African small mammal species

Abstract:

Afričtí malí savci jsou velmi rozmanitá skupina živočichů. Cílem této práce bylo prozkoumat jejich genealogickou odlišnost na základě takzvaného indexu genealogické divergence. V teoretické části této práce je popsán samotný koncept druhu, fylogenetické stromy a model vícedruhové koalescence, dále pak metody Bayesovské analýzy a jejich využití k odhadu zkoumaného indexu. Výsledkem je celkem dvanáct druhových stromů, které znázorňují parametry modelu vícedruhové koalescence a výsledné hodnoty indexu genealogické divergence pro každý druh zastoupený ve zkoumaných taxonech. Výsledky naznačují výskyt diferencovaných druhů jak v minulosti, tak v přítomnosti. V některých případech nasvědčoval tvar stromu a hodnoty indexu poměrně rychlému a opakovanému větvení v rámci linie. U části taxonů bylo vymezení některých druhů nejasné z důvodu asymetrické hodnoty indexu genealogické divergence u sesterských větví.

Abstract:

African small mammals are a very diverse group of animals. The aim of this work was to examine their genealogical distinctiveness based on the so-called genealogical divergence index. The theoretical part of this thesis describes the concept of species, phylogenetic trees, the multi-species coalescent model, and the methods of Bayesian analysis. As results a total of twelve species trees are presented, which show the parameters of the multi-species coalescent model and the genealogical divergence index for each species included in the examined taxa. The results suggest the occurrence of distinct species both in the past and in the present. In some cases, the shape of the tree and the index values indicated relatively fast and repeated branching within the lineage. For some taxa, the delimitation of some species was unclear due to the asymmetric value of the genealogical divergence index in the sister branches.
