Hashtag as an new commucation mean - linguistic analyses of media content

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis introduces the hashtag as a new and favourite means of highlighting in the internet, the connection of which and the highlighted has been insufficiently researched yet. The thesis defines the hashtag and compares its role with that of keywords. It investigates the difference in the usage of hashtags on specific social media platforms. A survey as well as a total of fourteen examples of the usage taken from two social media platforms were analysed in order to comprehend the function and the usage of the hashtag. The results showed that in most cases hashtags reflect the content of the post which they belong to, highlight its certain aspect, often have an emotional connotation, and function as a hyperlink categorizing the internet content in the first place.

Abstract:

Diese Bachelorarbeit stellt den Hashtag als ein neues und beliebtes Mittel zur Hervorhebung im Internet vor, dessen Zusammenhang mit dem Hervorgehobenen in der Geschichte nur wenig erforscht wurde. Sie definiert Hashtags und vergleicht die Rolle der Hashtags mit der Rolle von Schlagwörtern. Der Unterschied im Umgang mit Hashtags auf bestimmten sozialen Netzwerken wird untersucht. Es werden eine Umfrage und insgesamt vierzehn Beispiele genommen aus zwei sozialen Netzwerken analysiert, damit die Funktion von Hashtags und der Umgang mit ihnen verstanden werden. Das Ergebnis zeigt, dass die Hashtags meistens den Inhalt des Beitrags, dem sie gehören, widerspiegeln, einen Aspekt dieses Beitrags betonen, oft eine emotionale Konnotation tragen und vor allem als den Inhalt des Internets kategorisierende Hypertexthinweise fungieren.
