Wind instruments (aerophones) of the Aegean Bronze and classical antiquity

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá dechovými hudebními nástroji v egejské oblasti od doby bronzové po klasické období. Věnuje se problematice hudby starověkého Řecka, přístupu k hudbě a jejímu postavení ve starověké řecké společnosti. Obsahuje také stručné shrnutí starověké řecké organologie. Stěžejní část práce se zabývá dechovými hudebními nástroji v daných obdobích. Dechové nástroje jsou řazeny podle systematiky Hornbostel-Sachs. Práce se zaobírá hukadlem, hranovými flétnami, aulem, trubkami a salpinx. Součástí práce je také katalog nálezů dechových nástrojů a jejich dvojrozměrných i trojrozměrných zobrazení. Katolog obsahuje nálezy, které jsou datované od třetího tisíciletí do čtvrtého století před naším letopočtem. Poslední kapitola práce obsahuje statistické vyhodnocení dat z katalogu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with woodwind musical instruments of the Aegean from the Bronze Age to the Classical Period. It is concerned with the music in ancient Greece, the approach to music and its role in the ancient Greek society. It contains a brief summary of ancient Greek organology. The main part of the thesis deals with aerophones in the given periods. Woodwind instruments are sorted according to Hornbostel-Sachs systematic. The thesis takes a look at the bullroarer, edge-blown flutes, aulos, horns and salpinx. The thesis includes a catalogue of the finds of woodwind instruments as well as their two- and three-dimensional representations. The catalogue contains finds dated from third thousand to the fourth century before Christ. At the end of the thesis is a statistical evaluation of the catalogue.
