Preferences of Czech and Finnish economics students when entering the job market

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je identifikovat rozdíly v kariérních preferencích českých a finských studentů ekonomických oborů a vysvětlit je zejména ve vztahu ke kulturnímu a socioekonomickému prostředí v těchto dvou zemích. K naplnění cíle diplomové práce byla v rámci teoretické části vypracována literární rešerše a v rámci praktické části byly vypočítány vybrané Hofstedeho indexy a provedeno statistické testování hypotéz kariérních preferencí studentů. Bylo zjištěno, že čeští studenti ekonomických oborů preferují při výběru zaměstnání finanční odměnu a vyhledávají pracovní pozice u prestižních zaměstnavatelů více než finští studenti. Naopak finští studenti preferují práci u klimaticky odpovědných zaměstnavatelů a vyhledávají pracovní pozice, které nabízí možnost využití podpory duševního zdraví více než čeští studenti. V oblastech work–life balance, jistoty práce, kariérního růstu a pracovního prostředí nebyly identifikovány signifikantní rozdíly v preferencích mezi skupinami studentů.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to identify differences in career preferences among Czech and Finnish economic students, particularly explaining them within the cultural and socio-economic contexts of these two countries. To achieve this goal, a literature review was conducted in the theoretical part, and selected Hofstede's indices were calculated and hypotheses regarding students' career preferences were statistically tested in the practical part of the thesis. It was observed that Czech students in economic fields prioritize financial remuneration and seek positions with prestigious employers more than Finnish students. Conversely, Finnish students show a preference for employment with environmentally responsible employers and seek positions that offer opportunities for mental health support to a greater extent than Czech students. No discernible differences in preferences were identified between the groups in areas such as work–life balance, job security, career growth, and working environment.
