Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá románem Lucy autorky Jamaicy Kincaid. Úvodní kapitola poskytuje informace o přínosu současných afroamerických spisovatelek pro literaturu a uvádí život a dílo Jamaicy Kincaid. Výchozí metodou ke zpracování práce je postkoloniální literární kritika. Analytická část práce se zaměřuje na dospívání hlavní postavy románu, jež je ovlivněno postkoloniálními zkušenostmi. Dále zkoumá problematiku střetu kultur, rasové, genderové, třídní aspekty a vzah mezi matkou a dcerou. Cílem práce je rozpoznat tyto prvky a témata vyskytující se v románu a interpretovat je.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the novel Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid. The opening chapter serves as a background providing information about the contemporary African American women writers? asset to literature and introduces Jamaica Kincaid?s life and work. Using the method of postcolonial literary criticism, the analytical part of the thesis focuses on the protagonist?s coming of age influenced by the post-colonial experience. It also examines the main topics such as the clash of cultures, racial, gender, class aspects and the mother-daughter relationship. The aim of the thesis is to identify the elements and themes present in the novel and to interpret them.
