Chomutov - Bombing the city and civil defense during the World War II

Abstract:

Cílem práce je představit celkovou míru poškození města Chomutova během leteckých operací druhé světové války. Součástí je náhled do problematiky letecké války nad západní částí Říšské župy Sudety a s ní souvisejícími haváriemi a sestřely letadel v oblasti Chomutovska. Je popsána struktura fungování protiletecké varovné služby, protiletecké ochrany a jejích prvků včetně zatemnění a zhodnocena také výstavba protileteckých štol ve městě v závěrečné etapě války. Popsány jsou nálety na samotný Chomutov v letech 1944 a 1945, s důrazem na poslední nálet RAF na našem území z 19. dubna 1945, který způsobil těžké škody na chomutovském nádraží a vozovém parku místní dráhy. V závěru jsou zhodnoceny následky leteckého bombardování města včetně jejich psychologického aspektu. Přílohy na konci práce zahrnují stav výstavby protileteckých krytů, seznam ulic ve městě, které byly zasaženy třemi většími nálety a obrazové a fotografické materiály.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis introduces the degree of damage in Chomutov after the allied bombing during World War II. A part of this work is an insight to the aerial warfare over western part of the Reichsgau Sudetenland and ralated plane crashes and combat losses in the Chomutov region. This described the structure of the german warning service, civil defense and blackout during war. Next part introduces underground air-raid tunnels construction in the city in the final stage of the war. Last part is the introduction of the air-raids in 1944 a 1945 including the largest attack on 19 April 1945, which was the last Royal Air Force raid on our territory. This last bombing caused heavy damage at the city main railway station, railway workshop and rolling stock. The end of the thesis consist of the evaluation of the allied air-raids aftermath including psychological effect of the city bombing. Annex contains a list of air-raid shelters, list of damaged and destroyed houses in the city and visual and photographic materials.
