Peter Singer and His Critics

Abstract:

Ve své diplomové práci se věnuji environmentálním myšlenkám Petera Singera a jeho kritiků, se specifickým zaměřením na zoocentrickou etiku. Snažím se shrnout jeho základní princip a z něj vyplývající myšlenky, včetně jeho argumentace týkající se práv zvířat, průmyslové produkce masa, vegetariánství, používání zvířat v experimentálním výzkumu a jejich morálního statusu. Uvádím také Singerovy hlavní oponenty a jejich názory na stejná témata. Cílem práce je především představení názorové základny Petera Singera a jeho kritiků, kterou předkládá teoretická část práce. V analýze se pak zabývám jejich porovnáním a zhodnocením z hlediska výlučnosti, konzistence i propracovanosti.

Abstract:

In my master’s thesis I occupy with environmental ideas of peter Singer and his critics, with specific focus on zoocentrical ethics. I am trying to summarize his basic principle and from it following thoughts, including his argument concerning animal rights, the industrial production of meat, vegetarianism, animal use in experimental research and their moral status. It also presents main opponents of Singer and theirs opinions on the same issues. The aim of work is to show the base opinion of Peter Singer and his critics, which is introduced in the theoretical part of the thesis. The analysis then focuses on their comparison and evaluation in terms of exclusivity, consistency and sophistication.
