Utilisation of the Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT) in stroke patients

Abstract:

Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (dále CIMT) je forma rehabilitační terapie, která čerpá z poznatků neurologie, fyziologie, rehabilitace a behaviorální psychologie. CIMT napomáhá pacientům po poškození centrálního nervového systému znovu zapojit své končetiny s motorickým deficitem do běžných denních činností (ADL). Tato terapie klade důraz především na přenesení nabytých pokroků a výsledků do domácího prostředí pacienta. Princip Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy spočívá v nuceném používání paretické horní končetiny a omezení hybnosti méně postižené horní končetiny. Postižená horní končetina je nucena se aktivně zapojovat do činnosti 3 až 6 hodin denně po dobu 2-3 týdnů (tj. 10-15 dní terapie). V praxi se jedná o formu nácviků reálných a běžných aktivit, které pacient pro svůj aktivní život potřebuje. Cíle CIMT jsou totiž podobné cílům ergoterapie samotné a to jest smysluplné zaměstnávání a co největší soběstačnost pacienta.

Abstract:

Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT) is a form of rehabilitation therapy that is based on the knowledge of neurology, physiology, rehabilitation and behavioral psychology. CIMT helps patients after damage to the central nervous system to reconnect with their motor deficit limbs for everyday activities (ADL). This therapy places emphasis on the transfer of the gained progress and results to the patient's home environment. The principle of Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy is to force the use of the paretic limb and limit of movement of the less injured upper limb. The affected upper limb is forced to actively engage in activities 3 to 6 hours a day for 2 to 3 weeks (that is 10 to 15 days of therapy). In practice that using real-world exercises and normal activities that the patient needs for an active life. The aims of CIMT are similar to the aims of occupational therapy and that is the meaningful employment and the greatest self-sufficiency of the patient.
