Fandom and Participatory Culture on the Internet Illustrated by the Example of Critical Role

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá fenoménem fandomu v prostředí a době internetu, a to na základě antropologického výzkumu konkrétního příkladu, fandomu pořadu Critical Role (a fanoušků, tzv. Critters). Ústředním zájmem jsou témata, která fanoušci zmiňují v souvislosti s pořadem. V kontextu specifické terminologie, teorií fanouškovství, a na základě etnografických metod, slouží tato témata pro popsání, co z fanoušků jako jednotlivců vytváří koherentní skupinu.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the concept of fandom in the era of the Internet. It is based on anthropological research of a specific group, the fandom of the show Critical Role (and the fans known as Critters). The thesis focuses mainly on topics that fans mention in connection with the show. Contextualized by the specific terminology and fan theories, and based on ethnographic methods, the observed topics serve as an explanation as to how individual fans form a coherent group.
