An approach to promoting cycling in EU cities

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá způsoby podpory cyklodopravy v evropských městech, konkrétně v Brně, Amsterdamu a Rennes. Cílem bylo zhodnotit odlišnosti a společné aspekty v přístupech k podpoře cyklodopravy ve vybraných městech. Práce má deduktivní charakter a sestává z komparativní analýzy určitých cílů podpory cyklodopravy a cyklistické infrastruktury. Úvodní část se zaměřuje na teoretické vymezení strategických dokumentů a konkrétních oblastí cyklodopravy. Jsou zde definovány příležitosti, limity, hrozby i výzvy, se kterými se cyklodoprava ve městech setkává. Praktická část pak sestává z tabulek zachycujících časový vývoj realizace vybraných nástrojů rozvoje a podpory cyklodopravy. Vyhodnocení bylo určeno na základě evaluace syntetizovaných výsledků konkrétních cílů podpory. V závěru je uvedeno zhodnocení přístupů k podpoře cyklodopravy jak v Brně, tak Amsterdamu a Rennes a rozebrány hlavní rozdíly.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the ways of promoting cycling in European cities, especifically in Brno, Amsterdam and Rennes. The aim was to evaluate the differences and common aspects in the approaches towards the promotion of cycling transport in the selected cities. The thesis is deductive in nature and consists of a comparative analysis of certain objectives of cycling support and cycling infrastructure. The introductory part focuses on the theoretical specification of strategic documents and specific areas of cycling support. It defines the opportunities, limits, threats and challenges that cycling faces in cities. The practical part consists of tables showing the time evolution of the implementation of selected instruments for the development and support of cycling. The assesment was determined on the basis of the evaluation of the synthesised results of specific support objectives. It concludes with an assessment of the approaches towards cycling support in Brno, Amsterdam and Rennes and discusses the main differences.
