"Non-gallery" space as a liberation for the presentation of intermedia art in Slovakia and the Czech Republic after the year 2000

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis entitled "'Non-gallery' space as a liberation for the presentation of intermedia art in Slovakia and the Czech Republic after the year 2000”, focuses on unusual gallery spaces - "non-galleries", that appear in Slovakia and the Czech Republic after 2000. The first theoretical part of the thesis defines the terms "gallery", "museum" and "non-gallery". Then it defines the phrase "intermedia art" and its classification among other types of art. Lastly, it maps the Czech and Slovak art scene after the year 2000, together with the emerging "non-galleries". At the beginning of the practical part, this bachelor's thesis divides specific intermedia works from the Czech Republic and Slovakia into five subcategories – site-specific projects, performance art, happenings, objects and conceptual art. Finally, it examines the relationships of non-galleries with works of art presented in these atypical spaces. As well as relationships with artists and the audience themselves. After this analysis, it will use questionnaires to answer the main question of this work - "How and whether the space of 'non-galleries' can abolish the fixed separation of a work of art from the whole human experience?".

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca s názvom „Priestor 'negalérie' ako oslobodenie pre prezentáciu intermediálneho umenia na Slovensku a v Čechách po roku 2000“, sa zameriava na nezvyčajné galerijné priestory – „negalérie“, ktoré sa objavujú po roku 2000 na území Slovenska a Českej republiky. V prvej časti práce definuje pojmy „galéria“, „múzeum“ a „negaléria“, následne slovné spojenie „intermediálne umenie“ a jeho zaradenie medzi ostatnými druhmi umenia. V poslednej fáze teoretickej časti mapuje českú a slovenskú umeleckú scénu po roku 2000, spolu s objavujúcimi sa „negalériami“. Na začiatku praktickej časti rozdelí konkrétne intermediálne diela z Čiech a Slovenska do piatich podkategórií – site-specific projektov, performance umenia, happeningov, objektov a konceptuálneho umenia. Na záver skúma vzťahy "negalérií" s umeleckými dielami, prezentovanými v týchto netypických priestoroch. Rovnako tak aj vzťahy s umelcami a samotnými divákmi. Po tejto analýze zodpovie hlavnú otázku tejto práce - „Ako a či dokáže priestor 'negalérie' zrušiť zafixovanú separáciu umeleckého diela od celku ľudskej skúsenosti, ktorej súčasťou umelecké dielo je?“. K tomu sú jej nápomocné vyplnené dotazníky od kurátora umenia a umelcov.
