Plan and implementation of BI solutions in the environment of a small financial institution

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá návrhem a implementací BI řešení v prostředí menší finanční instituce. Práce má jeden hlavní cíl a dva dílčí cíle. Hlavní cílem práce je vytvoření prototypu datového tržiště a návrhu reportů v menší finanční instituci. Při jeho tvorbě došlo k vytvoření datové pumpy (ETL) v prostředí SSIS, která odstranila případnou datovou nekvalitu, provedla správné ocenění aktiv dle požadavků metodiky a vytvořila podmínky pro správný výpočet výnosů. Vytváření výpočtů proběhlo pomocí dotazovací jazyku MDX v prostředí softwaru SSAS. Tyto výpočty byly validovány na základě referenčních hodnot. Prvním dílčím cílem je analýza businessu, prostředí firmy a výběr požadavků na BI řešení. V teoretické části byla představena popisovaná firma a oblast kapitálových trhů, kde působí. Byl popsán obchodní model firmy, jaké jsou její dosavadní cíle a vize. V praktické části byly analyzovány existující BI řešení a došlo k analýze návratnosti těchto řešení. Dále byla provedena business analýza firmy, v které byl představen současný stav, nalezené problémy a cílový stav řešení. Na základě nich došlo k výběru jednoho z problému (výpočet výnosů) k dalšímu řešení. Pro toto řešení byla nalezena existující metodika, která byla upravena pro potřeby dané firmy. Na základě požadavků metodiky došlo k definování požadavků na výstupy BI řešení. Druhým dílčím cílem této práce je vytvoření datového modelu datového tržiště. Na základě analýzy existující datové struktury a transakcí došlo k vytvoření konceptuálního a dimenzionálního modelu datového tržiště. V rámci jeho tvorby došlo k vytvoření typologie transakcí do vzorových skupin, které mají dopad na výpočet výnosů. Výstupem práce je otestovaný prototyp datového tržiště a návrh vzorové podoby reportingu v prostředí dané firmy. Topologie transakcí a algoritmy vzešlé z této práce nejsou vázány pouze na tuto firmu. Po jejich modifikaci by měly jít aplikovat i na prostředí jiných společností.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the plan and implementation of BI solutions in the environment of a small financial institution. The thesis has one primary objective and two partial objectives. The main objective of the thesis is the development of data mart prototype and the proposal of reporting in a small financial institution. During the data mart creation process, a data pump (ETL) was developed in the SSIS environment, which eliminated possible low data quality, calculated the correct asset evaluation in accordance with the methodology, and prepared the environment for correct return of investment calculations. The calculations were created using the MDX query language in the SSAS software environment. These calculations were validated based on reference values. The first partial objective is the analysis of business, company environment and selection of requirements for BI solutions. In the theoretical part of the thesis the company was introduced and the area of capital markets where the company operates. The business model of the company, its goals and vision were described. In the practical part, the existing BI solutions were analysed and the return on these solutions was analysed. Furthermore, a business analysis of the company was performed, in which the current state, found problems and the target state of the solution were presented. Based on the analysis, problem of calculation of investment returns was selected for further research and solution. An existing methodology was found for this solution, which was adapted to the needs of the company. Based on the requirements of the methodology, the requirements for the outputs of the BI solution were defined. The second partial objective of thesis is to create a data model of the data mart. Based on the analysis of the existing data structure and transactions, a conceptual and dimensional model of the data mart was created. During the process of the development a typology of transactions into groups was created, which have an impact on the calculation of returns. The outcome of the work is a tested prototype of a data mart and the design of reporting in the environment of the company. The transaction topologies and algorithms resulting from this work are not limited only to this company. After modification deployment on other institutions or companies is possible.
